Broken Pieces

Revolution Day

Copyright 2007.

I wrote this on New Years Day 2007.

It is a common custom we have practiced, to make New Years Resolutions to make our Christian walk better, to give up certain things that are bad for us, to begin exercising or losing weight, etc.

Those aren't BAD things! But, I've seen a frustrating pattern in my own life, that these New Years Resolutions do not even last to the end of January.

This is because of the war of my flesh. How much better, I reason, to revolt against the flesh, and surrender all that ground to the Lord, make Him the one on the throne rather than ME, and allow Him to have charge of these resolutions.

Lyrics

Isn't it strange how every year
Begins and ends the same
With a New Year's Resolution
That things are gonna change?

Gonna shed a few pounds
Put the cigarettes down
Read my bible every dawn
But by the time the month is past
Those empty promises are gone…

What made me think that I could keep them
When I really didn't care?
I set my own self up for failure
When my heart just isn't there…
So while we kiss the old year out
And we kiss the new year in
I'm going to start a revolution
If you want, you can join in.

It's a New Years Revolution
To make no more resolutions
For those year-long promises
Don't seem to last for 30 days.
So instead I'll take it day by day
Allow the Lord to have His way.
Surrender all my lands to Him
On Revolution Day.

I'm gonna sign the titles over
Gonna wave that big white flag
'Cause the guy who sat upon my throne
Was really just a drag

Surrender the town,
Nail the drawbridge down
Give the Lord the Kingdom Key.
Let Him in to every room,
They do not belong to me
